Born and bred in Ilkley, James studied Law at Leeds University and practiced in Bradford and Leeds with prominent commercial firms before returning to his roots in the Wharfe Valley at the beginning of 2016. With over 25 years of experience in all manner of commercial and residential property work, James is able to combine a great depth of legal knowledge with a practical understanding of what his clients need to achieve.
James is a partner in the firm’s commercial property department, having qualified as a Solicitor in 1990. His experience includes acting for a wide variety of tenants from small owner managed businesses to large national retail operators. He also has wide experience acting for landlords in all areas of property management.
Transactions which James has been involved with range from the purchase of a large distribution hub for a national haulier, to the disposal of club premises for residential development involving the construction of a new club premises to enable a valuable community facility to continue to function.
James enjoys getting to understand clients’ businesses and seeking to apply legal solutions to a business’ requirements.
James has two children and has been involved in coaching both of their football teams in the junior section of Ilkley Town Football Club. This is a role which has seen him become increasingly involved in the club’s ambitious development plans not only as a legal advisor but also as one of the club’s fundraisers.
