Sam is our very own local lad, born and raised in Otley, he has an extensive knowledge of the Wharfedale and surrounding areas. He was keen to join a local firm after working for a law firm in Leeds for seven years.
Sam qualified as a Solicitor with Newstead & Walker in 2025, having joined the firm in 2023 as the firm’s first trainee solicitor under the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) route. Since qualifying, he has become a valued member of our Property Department, bringing with him a strong background in property and conveyancing matters.
Sam is developing a particular specialism in agricultural law, supporting farmers, landowners, rural businesses and estates across a broad range of matters. His work includes agricultural land sales and acquisitions, farm business tenancies, succession and inheritance planning, trusts, property and boundary disputes, planning and development projects, environmental and regulatory compliance, rural subsidy schemes, equestrian matters, farming partnerships, mineral and sporting rights, and compulsory purchase matters.
Committed to the firm’s client-focused approach, Sam combines practical legal expertise with a strong understanding of the challenges facing the agricultural and rural sector, helping clients achieve commercially sound and effective outcomes.
In his spare time, Sam enjoys a variety of sports including football, boxing and American football. He is a keen practitioner in Muay Thai (Thai kickboxing) and has retained his interest in reading history from his university days. He is also a keen collector of (and spends far too much money on) retro video games.
